Landry Valentine’s Day Scene 4

Landry Covers

I wrote a Valentine’s Day scene for the Cool Hooker’s Group on Facebook. (Click the link to join – they’re awesome!) I thought I would share it here as we wait for Switch to go LIVE on Monday!

I’ll have some fun information at the bottom of this post, so make sure you read all the way through! :)

This is a disaster in the making. because when they’re together, the sparks that fly threaten to burn the whole place down.

SWITCH goes LIVE in KU on Monday, Feb 20th.

Lincoln Landry

“So …” I say, popping a piece of Mom’s coffee cake in my mouth. “Anything you want to tell us?”

Barrett returns my stare, his jaw set. “No.”

“Really? Nothing at all? No news or upcoming events or things you might do tonight to change the course of your future?”

“Fuck off, Linc,” Barrett says, shaking his head.

“I’m just saying, it is Valentine’s Day and all. It would be a good time to do something really romantic. Something like getting engaged.”

“Don’t get engaged on Valentine’s Day,” Ford says, walking in the kitchen. “It’s the most cliché thing on the planet.”

“The most cliché thing on the planet is red roses,” Graham says as he walks in from the back porch, not bothering to look up from his phone.

Ford rolls his eyes. “And how do you know a damn thing about what to do on Valentine’s Day, G? You’re the least romantic person in the world.”

Graham pulls his head up and looks at Ford with a raised brow, silently asking him if he’s sure he’s right.

“Let’s get back to the topic at hand,” I say, hopping off the counter. “Barrett, are you getting engaged today or not?”

“No, Lincoln,” he growls. “I’m not.”

“You kind of disappoint me,” I tell him. “I can only imagine Ali’s disappointment when there’s not a big diamond at the bottom of her champagne. I mean, you can afford it, right? Do we need G to give you a loan?”

“Leave him alone, Linc,” Graham mutters, his attention back to his phone. His fingers fly across the screen.

It’s normal behavior for Graham to be focused on work and emails and shit when he’s supposed to be getting ready to go golfing with our father. But there’s something about the way the corner of his lip starts to turn up as he deals with whatever it is that catches my interest.

“What’s that look about?” Ford says, looking at me. I look at him and wink.

“So, Graham, what are your plans for tonight?” I wait for him to respond, but he doesn’t. I’m not sure if he heard me.

Barrett laughs, leaning against the counter. He exchanges a look with Ford and I.

“You got a date tonight?” Ford asks Graham. When he doesn’t answer him, he bumps his shoulder. “Are you holding out on us?”

“I heard through the grapevine that your new assistant was hot as fuck,” Barrett chimes in.

Graham’s eyes leap from the screen to our oldest brother. “Lincoln, I stand corrected,” he says to me, still looking at Barrett. “Continue your shit with Barrett.”

We laugh, all of us but Graham. We’ve definitely hit a nerve and that’s hard to do with G. So, what do we do? We needle it.

“She is hot,” I remark, watching the vein in Graham’s temple start to bulge. “Smoking hot, if you want to know the truth.”

“And she’s smart as a whip,” Ford chimes in, smirking at me.

“Sexy and smart?” Barrett teases. “Damn, G. You got it made. Sounds like Alison.”

“Mallory is as sexy as Ali—”

“Shut up, Linc,” Graham and Barrett say in unison.

Ford laughs, the only one of them I can’t fuck with. He’s been gone too long overseas and, before that, the only girl he liked I can’t bring up. Even I am not that much of a dick.

“So Barrett isn’t getting engaged. Ford is still high and dry. Graham is definitely getting some office pussy, which makes me proud, and I’m going home to my fiancé. Sounds like I win,” I say, grabbing an ENGAGE hat that Dani’s friend, Macie, left for me when she was here last weekend.

The door opens again and our father walks in. “There are few things in life that are better than walking into the Farm and seeing all of your sons.”

“You better get used to just seeing your sons,” I tell him, heading out the door before I get smacked. “I’m not sure you’ll ever have grandkids from these pansies.”

My laughter trails behind me as my brothers hurl insults from every angle and my father tries his best to admonish me.

“Don’t worry, Dad—I know how to put it down,” I laugh, hearing the door slam behind me.

Jogging to Troy’s SUV, I give him a small wave and climb into the backseat and whip out my own phone and find Dani’s name.

I’m going to kick their asses and get home to you as quickly as possible.

Enjoy your day, Linc. I’m just picking up things and I might paint a little this afternoon.

Don’t paint without me. Fuck. Maybe I should just come home.

Don’t you dare!

If anything has been painted when I get back, your ass is mine.

My ass is yours anyway. ;)

Your damn right it is. I love you, Dani.

And I love you, Linc.

Squeezing my phone, I feel the smile that’s been on my face for the last few months now stretched across my face. As my brothers walk out of the house, ribbing each other as they approach the SUV, I realize: I’m the luckiest guy on the face of the planet.
